The Patterson’s have a deep and rich history in Beaufort the surrounding Sea Islands.

Edwin S. Patterson is a proud Beaufort native of fifty-nine years and considers his love of history, tradition, and home an asset in his personal as well as professional life.  He married a Georgia girl and has successfully raised two strong, independent children that he is proud to say are exceptional in their chosen fields of work and study.

Today, Patterson Construction, Inc. serves Beaufort County and surrounding areas with the values that made the company what it is today.  Through quality craftsmanship and listening to our clients’ needs, we are capable of completing both residential and commercial projects ranging in size and scope.  No matter the project, we stand behind each finished project.

Patterson Construction Inc.: President 1976 – Present

In 1976 Edwin S. Patterson began working for his grandfather’s company with an eagerness to succeed and willingness to work in order to gain the hands-on experience that is needed to learn the construction trade.

While the engineering classes are of course very important for your industry, he began as a laborer learning the trades of his father and grandfather while also learning estimation, managing crews, and job sites as well as budgeting. 

Through these valuable lessons and his proven ability to manage and lead, he has led the company as President of Patterson Construction since 1980.

Patterson Construction, Inc. mission is to ensure our clients are happily satisfied with our craftsmanship.  Our philosophy that our client’s satisfaction will ensure that our company will continue to prosper after this generation and into the next is reflected in the fact that much of our work is the result of referrals from satisfied clients.

Patterson Construction has grown exponentially since that day in 1980 and remains Beaufort’s top choice as a general contractor.

Patterson Construction holds an unlimited general contractor’s license through the state of South Carolina.  We also enjoy a long-term working relationship with a select group of subcontractors and suppliers who share my commitment to quality.

Edwin. S. Patterson

Upon graduation from Clemson University, class of 1915, Joseph Allen Patterson, Jr. was the youngest graduate in the history of Clemson at that time.

He married Charlotte Barnwell Brown, and in the early 1900’s founded J. Allen Patterson Construction Company.

The earliest accomplishments of his company included laying the first underwater power cable to Parris Island and recognizing the invention of air conditioning as critical for the modern development of Beaufort County.  It was Joe Allen’s company that installed the first heating and air conditioning system used in Beaufort County.  This system was installed at the Sea Island Hotel in the early 1950’s.

His son, Joseph Allen Patterson, III (Skeet) joined the business and married Mary Eloise Pike. In the 1960’s, the company was recognized as Patterson Construction, Inc., with Skeet as President.  During this period the family business was involved in a wide variety of building projects in Beaufort.  Among these projects were the Port Royal Inn, a medical complex at the Beaufort Memorial Hospital, Lady’s Island Shopping Center and the residential neighborhoods in Battery Creek, Lady’s Island, Shell Point and Gray’s Hill.

Skeet and Mary Patterson had five children.  Edwin Steven Patterson owns Patterson Construction Inc..  Joseph Allen Patterson IV, owns Patterson Residential.  Merritt Patterson, owns Beaufort Construction and Patterson Really.  Russell Patterson, is an attorney on Hilton Head Island.  Sandra Watters was a registered nurse and is now deceased.  Skeet passed away in 1986 and was followed by Mary in 1991.
